In 2009, I made a roadtrip through the south of France. We left from Barcelona, we took Montpellier as our “base of operations” where we rented a rural house at a very good price. Being in the middle of the Côte d’Azur, every day, we made day trips to the surroundings:
In 2010, we again traveled by car, this time along the coast of Northern France from Paris via Chartres, Rennes, Dinan, Saint-Malo, Mont Saint-Michel, the Route du Débarquement, Rouen and Giverny.
French highways are a bit expensive but comfortable and safe. The secondary highways are also characterized by their excellent state of preservation and allow you to get to know the country better. The speed limit on freeways is 130 km/h, on dual carriageways 110 km/h and 90 km/h on two-way roads.
France has a varied and temperate climate. In the northwest, temperatures are influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, so there is more humidity and winters are milder. In the east, the climate is continental so winters are colder and clearer and, during the summers, the weather is stormier. In the south the climate is more Mediterranean and we will have warm summers and mild winters.

What are the must-sees? The Place du Capitole, where the town hall and the Opera House are located, is a must. Other interesting sites are the Place Victor Hugo market, the Jacobins Convent, the Basilica of St. Saturnin, the Cathedral of St. Etienne, the Hotel d’Assezat or the Musée des Agustins. Even so, what we recommend is to get lost in charming streets such as Rue Henri de Gorsse, Rue de Blanchers or Rue Sant-Antonie du T. and, of course, walk along the Garonne River and contemplate its bridges.

On March 14, 2022, the presentation of the vaccination passport in those places where it was required (leisure and cultural centers, commercial catering, trade fairs and professional shows, etc.) ceased to be mandatory. Similarly, the health passport ceased to be in force on August 1, 2022.
Since the beginning of the crisis, the health control system has made it possible to preserve our health system and to delay the arrival on French territory of variants with worrying characteristics. This system ceased to be in force on August 1, 2022.
However, in the event of the emergence of a dangerous variant, the entry into French territory of travelers from countries considered to be at risk could again be subject to the presentation of a negative virological test.
