In this post we are going to tell you everything you should know if you want to visit Toledo. This is the most common excursion from Madrid, although you can also visit Toledo as part of a trip through Castilla la Mancha that includes other places in this community.
Of course, if you are pressed for time, you can visit Toledo on a day trip from Madrid. In this case, you will be able to see most of the monuments in the historic center, which is very compact, although you will probably not have time to visit the interior of some of them, including the museums.
Parking in Toledo is not easy. And to do it for free, in the historic center, impossible. However, you can find free parking if you move a bit away from the center. Specifically, there is a huge open space where several hundred cars can fit and which is known as Santa Teresa Parking. In this link you can see the location.
It is a hotel with a long history behind it, which has been renovated. Do not expect a spectacular hotel. However, I think it is one of the best value for money accommodations in the city.

The section entitled Itineraries through Toledo describes ten routes that allow you to explore all the monumental and artistic wealth of the city inside the walls, as well as to visit the places of interest located outside the walls and to go through the cigarrales. The map of Toledo will make it easier to move around the city and will help to locate the most important monuments.
The second section, The Context, is a good way to approach the history and art, gastronomy and festivals, as well as other aspects of the city of Toledo, such as urban planning, architecture and craftsmanship.

Between Madrid and Ciudad Real, in the heart of La Mancha, stands the majestic province of Toledo. With an impressive cultural and natural heritage, it is worth to know it because its territory is full of historical vestiges fundamental to know our history and culture. Discover the 10 must-see places in Toledo.
The historic center of Toledo is framed within its walls, along which you can stroll, discover narrow streets and special corners, including the gates of the wall. The Bisagra Gate shows between its two towers a majestic coat of arms of the Imperial City. The Puerta del Sol and the Puerta del Cambrón also stand out.
One of the most unique viewpoints of Toledo is the Mirador del Valle, located on the other side of the Tagus River. From here you get a different view of the city: see Toledo from the outside, which allows you to appreciate the details, more difficult to appreciate walking through the streets. It is a pleasure to enjoy this panoramic view both day and night.

Here you can go up to the Old Town through Escalators (Puerta del Vado) or going through the Puerta de Alcantara you can go up (not too difficult) by the steps of the Paseo del Carmen, you can also get from the station by cab (5€) or by city bus, at the exit of the station you will always see the Tourist Bus (Hop On – Hop Off) which offers a tour outside the city walls (since it is not possible to enter) and can be a practical way and with less effort to tour the whole city.
