LATEST: New restrictions on travel to Europe
Traveling in Europe is now possible in many of its states and, fortunately, Portugal is on the list of countries that allow entry to tourism. After a first opening in July 2020 and a subsequent closure of long months, our neighboring country has reopened to travelers who want to visit, provided that a number of requirements are met. Below we are going to show you what these requirements are, both for mainland Portugal and for the islands of Azores and Madeira.
The government has launched the “Clean & Safe” seal, which certifies that the business that receives it adheres to the measures stipulated by the authorities and receives periodic audits to verify compliance. You will find this safety seal in restaurants, hotels, museums and other related businesses.
Now that you know what the scenario for traveling to Portugal is like, you may be asking yourself questions like “Where do I go?”, “What can I do?” or “What should I not miss?”. From IATI we launch you these proposals:
MOROCCO imposes a QUARANTINE on travelers from
In order to ensure compliance with the protocols, Turismo de Portugal provides training to the staff of certified companies and, in coordination with other entities, carries out random inspections. If you want to know which establishments and activities have the Clean and Safe seal, click here.
If you are traveling during these dates to the archipelagos of Madeira or Azores, you should be aware that specific restrictions may apply in both regions. For more information, we recommend consulting official sources:
You must also visit the Ribiera district, whose cobblestone streets lined with cafes and merchants’ houses, and its two monuments (the Church of San Francisco and the Palacio de Bolsa), will make you feel as if you have traveled back in time.
Another city full of history and surprises to discover is Coimbra. The streets of the center are full of beautiful old buildings and monuments, such as the Old Cathedral, the Almedina Arch, the University of Coimbra and the Joanina Library.
PORTUGAL tightens its RESTRICTIONS and demands TEST
If you are going to travel within the national territory, please consult the information provided by the Autonomous Communities in relation to their requirements to the traveler through the following
* Based on Article 5.2. of the Agreement on the Accession of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Convention implementing the Schengen Agreement of 14 June 1985 on the gradual abolition of checks at common borders, signed in Schengen on 19 June 1990, passengers coming from Greenland and the Faroe Islands will not be subject to border checks.
At present, there are no countries that are required to take additional measures to those already mentioned. In the event that the epidemiological situation in a country/territory or zone worsens to an alarming degree, exceptional health control measures may be applied to passengers arriving from such countries/zones.
