Where to go with an Auckland airport car hire

Most people travelling to New Zealand come by way of Auckland. New Zealand’s largest city is a great place to experience, though you’ll also want to check out the rest of the country. So pick up an Auckland airport car hire upon arrival and head out to one of these great destinations, all of which are easily accessible from Auckland.

Northland

The thin peninsula north of Auckland is known as Northland. This finger of land is a sub-tropical playground, complete with white, sandy beaches, laid-back beach towns and picturesque islands. A tour of the beautiful Bay of Islands will be one of the most memorable parts of your trip, and a few hikes through the kauri forests on the west coast will leave you awed y the towering trees. To add a touch of drama to the scene, visit Cape Reinga where two seas crash into each other at the northernmost tip of New Zealand.

Rotorua

Rotorua is a vacationer’s dream. Home to an abnormal number of natural hot pools and mud baths, the town developed a major tourism industry early on. In addition to relaxing in the spas, visitors are encouraged to test their limits with bungee jumping, sky diving and ‘zorbing’ (a local specialty that involves climbing into a human-sized hamster ball and rolling, full-throttle, down a hill). You can’t leave New Zealand without trying at least one extreme sport: if you haven’t crossed one off your bucket list yet, now is the time.

Coromandel

This peninsula to the east of Auckland is just a short drive away from the bustling metropolis, and yet it feels like a different world. Under populated and unfairly beautiful, the Coromandel is a great place to get away from it all. Take a hiking trip through the forested interior, or simply skip along the beaches of the rim. Just be sure you stop at Hot Water Beach: a phenomenal spot where natural hot springs run under the sand, allowing you to effectively dig your own spa.

New Plymouth

The trip to New Plymouth will require just over nine hours of driving, so it might be best to take a few days to complete this journey. Fortunately, there’s plenty to see on the way, including the famous glowworm caves in Waitomo. Once you arrive in New Plymouth, enjoy the pretty, little city with a walk around town and a stop in the lovely Govett-Brewster Art Gallery.

The whole country

One of the best aspects of travelling around New Zealand is how easy it is to see everything that’s packed into this tiny country on one trip. You can head south from Auckland and catch just about everything you want on your way down. The only problem is how to get the car back up to Auckland once you’ve been over New Zealand with a fine-toothed comb. Luckily, you wouldn’t be the first to have this problem, and it’s long since been solved. Simply book a one way car rental from Auckland: you can drop it off at the Christchurch airport before flying back up north. Cheap, efficient and easy: what could be a better way to finish off your trip?
