If you are wondering what to visit in Trieste, here are several reasons. Trieste, the wonderfully bohemian Italian port city on the border with Slovenia is famous for its coffee culture and intellectual tradition. Did you know that James Joyce and his wife Nora lived here for over a decade? Apparently it was here that he began work on his masterpiece Ulysses. Other gratified minds that roamed the streets of Trieste included Rainer Maria Rikle, Umberto Saba and even the young Sigmund Freud. Why not follow in their footsteps?
This economic policy was supported by Maria Theresa, who acceded to the throne in 1840, allowing Trieste to become the main port of the Habsburg Empire and one of the largest in all of Europe. It was during her reign that the city received a complete renovation worthy of its status.
Although Slovenes represented a majority in this area, Italy remained with Trieste. We have prepared a special itinerary for all those who wish to visit Istria and learn more about the fascinating history of its three nations (Croats, Italians and Slovenes). The program also includes a visit to the city and places to visit in Trieste. Today, due to the processes of European integration, their cultures seem to be more intertwined than ever.

From Udine it takes one hour with the direct train. Turin and Milan also connect with Trieste without stopping at the Santa Lucia station in Venice. If we come from Slovenia we must know that there is no direct line, and that it makes a long journey that goes to Sesena on the border between Slovenia and Italy, and from there another train goes through Gorizia and Montefalcone. One option is to take a cab in Sesena and pay about 25 € to drop us in the center of Trieste.
