How many euros do I need to travel to Italy?

The Colosseum in Rome, the Duomo in Florence, the canals of Venice, the hills in Tuscany, are just some of the beauties that Italy offers, and if you want to live and enjoy them, we tell you how much it costs to travel to Italy from Mexico.

If you choose to stay in 3 or 4 star hotels, you could be paying between 2000 and 3000 pesos per night. For example, at the Hotel Giolli Nazionale, a night will cost you approximately 2,150 pesos, while at the Parc Hotel Germano Suites & Apartment, you will spend around 2,890 Mexican pesos.

For example, if you want a private room at the Yellow Square Rome, you could pay about 834 M per night, if you prefer a shared one, you will pay 448. At the Hostel Venezia Mestre 2, you will pay 1300 for a private room, and 302 for a shared room.

Beautiful Verona is home to this restaurant that serves the best Gnoquis, prepared with black truffle and Parmesan cheese. It is also famous for pasta stuffed with meat and fish or risottos, made with Tuscan wine.

Hotels in Venice are extremely expensive. Also I understand that many of them are in need of a good renovation inside. Also the vacation rental apartments are way over what I would call low budget. However, it is possible to find some interesting deals as long as you travel in low season and outside of long weekends. For example, if you travel in November, I found this one for 45€ per night for a double room on a room only basis, which is very well located. The decor is not very modern and it has no luxuries but it looks neat and has good reviews. This other one for 50 € per night for a double room (without breakfast) also looks very good. It has a good location too.

These prices are not very common on the island, but they are possible if you look at it with time and in low season months. Normally a very normal hotel can be around 100€ for a double room without breakfast.

If you are traveling alone, the cheapest option is to stay in a hostel. I found this one from the Generator chain which looks excellent. There are beds in shared dormitories from 26€. In terms of quality-price low-cost version, it is one of the best you can find on the island.

Are you one of those who still think that travel insurance is something dispensable?  It never hurts to be cautious.  We always recommend traveling with a travel insurance to avoid health problems, theft or critical situations.

Remember that you will have to validate your ticket when you get on the transport. There are no turnstiles at the stations, making it very tempting for those who want to travel without paying. However, on a 3-day trip, I was asked for my ticket by a ticket inspector on the subway. I don’t think it’s worth the risk.

I also made a first reservation at a good 3 star hotel in Charlottenburg (good area located 10-15 minutes from the center) for 25 euros per person including breakfast. A real bargain. Between 35-45 per night there are very good deals.

In Berlin you can eat very cheaply almost any kind of cuisine. There are Vietnamese, Mexican, Indian, Japanese, Greek, Italian restaurants… And even some German restaurants. They are usually cozy and nicely decorated places, with good dishes and where you will not go out for more than 15 € if you are not a glutton. For 10 € you will be well satisfied.

How to travel through Italy from north to south

You started your Au Pair experience and every now and then you have a free weekend? Of course, the first thing that comes to your mind is to travel and explore the country where you live or maybe visit your friends and family back home. But is it possible to travel on a budget as an Au Pair? Without a doubt, yes.

It has happened to all of us, walking around a city center, browsing and occasionally buying some overpriced mugs or magnets with the city’s logo on them. If you really need these things, then go to the supermarket or any place that is NOT a souvenir store and buy it there. But we recommend that you bring something nice like local food or wine, you can usually find very affordable options in supermarkets and your friends or family would surely like to taste something from the country you’ve been to while listening to your stories about your amazing travel experience.

Depending on their budget and your preferences, you may want to find affordable, cheap or free accommodation. For the first option check Airbnb or Booking. For the second, Hostelworld or Hostelbookers. You can also check out Hotelscombined or Expedia, which compare different hotels, hostel rooms and apartments and you can use filters to find the one that fits your plans. If you don’t want to pay for a bed, try to find a host on Couchsurfing, in big cities it usually works very well.
