Travel to us from greece

Travel to greece covid

Getting off the plane and taking a car is almost a travel tradition for us. It is the most common form of transportation in a destination for us. The road trip as a form of travel, since driving on your own seems to us the best way to get to know a new country. In the case of Greece, as it happened with Croatia or Iceland, the combination of car and ferry was very necessary.

Regarding travel between mainland Greece and the islands, you can reach the main ones with internal flights, so you would not need to take a ferry. As far as we were concerned, in one case we went with the rented car (then the plane was not an option) and in another, the combination of frequencies and schedules was much wider with the ferry and allowed us more freedom.

In fact, we returned to Madrid from Santorini with Iberia, although at a significantly higher cost than flying from Athens would have been (almost twice as much). But this also saved us the transfer from Santorini to Athens and, above all, we gained an extra day on the island.

Our guide full of tips for traveling by camper van or motorhome to Greece gathers the essential information to help any motorhomer to prepare a trip to Greece. This trip to Greece by van is an authentic and personal travel experience, from which we can talk about where to spend the night with the motorhome in Greece, how to drive on the roads, gastronomy and how to travel safely, among others.

There is always something that we would have liked to know and caught us by surprise, something that is not written and neither the travel guides tell… They are remnants of the experience, those that we sew during the trip, to finally weave a warm blanket. Here we lend you our humble travel blanket to discover Greece.

As in all trips to Europe, we recommend that you take your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you when traveling to Greece. However, as the coverage offered by this card always depends on the agreements between our country of origin and the European country we are traveling to, we recommend you to take an additional travel insurance to complement the coverage and travel with absolute protection.

So nothing, grab a pen and paper, choose the Greece tour that best suits what you want to do and if you have it clear, book in advance because in Greece the cool things fly and you will not leave this blog without the whole trip organized as we did.

The first of the routes is a 7 day trip through Greece, which despite being a very short duration, I have tried to distribute the coolest places you can see in those days taking into account how little you are going to be in the country. I already predict that you will want to come back!

Here is the itinerary for Greece in 7 days that I would do, detailed day by day, where I have left a column with what to do each day and another one with the place where we will spend the night that day.

As we have a few days in Athens, for this second day you must see the Panatinaiko stadium and climb Mount Lycabettus. After this, we pick up the rental car in the city and head to Meteora (4h).

Roadtrip from Meteora to Athens. We get up early and the first stop on the way to Athens will be Delphi (3h). From there we will head to the Monastery of Osios Loukas (0h 42min). From the monastery to Athens we have 2h 12min. There we will leave the car and take a flight to Mykonos.

Illusion. The illusion of preparing a long trip, to an unknown destination. We missed that feeling almost as much as we missed traveling itself. And this summer we have recovered it with Greece. And that was not entirely new to me, since in 2008 I had already visited its capital for a few days (although on this trip I got to know it much more as we explained in this post about our 3 days in Athens). But it was too short and, obviously, it was too little for me. This time, the goal was to travel much more.

At the time of our trip to Greece, the requirements to be able to enter the country, coming from other EU nations, was to fill out an online passenger locator form available on their website (registration required) and meet one of these alternative criteria:

Days before our trip, moreover, there was a very strong heat wave that caused even very serious fires, which made us hesitate whether to go to Greece just then… but with everything prepared we could not cancel already. Fortunately, although we obviously had high temperatures, they were more than bearable and we did not have to give up anything for fear of the heat.
