The remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea, the site is a popular day trip for tourists from Athens, and the sunset over the Aegean Sea, as seen from the ruins, is a much sought-after sight.

Thessaloniki is Greece’s second city and the capital of the northern Macedonian region of the country. Its lively festivals, social events and bustling nightlife make this city the cultural capital of Greece.

Halkidiki is a trident-shaped peninsula near the city of Thessaloniki, with excellent beaches. The three separate peninsulas can be roughly summarized as follows: Kassandra has the nightlife, Sithonia the beaches and Athos the monks.

Being closer to Thessaloniki, Kassandra is more urbanized, while the quieter Sithonia has campsites, hidden coves and clear waters. Both are popular with Greek and Eastern European tourists, much of the easternmost peninsula belongs to the monastic community of Mount Athos, is accessible by boat and is open only to male pilgrims.

The Acropolis or Athenian “upper city” is the most important and imposing of the Greek cities. These sections of Hellenistic cities dominated the skyline for two reasons: defense and worship of the gods.

The most recognizable building on the Acropolis of Athens is the Parthenon, an impressive white marble Doric temple dedicated to Athena, the eponymous goddess of the city. It was built by Pericles during the 5th century BC and is a World Heritage Site along with the whole of the Acropolis.

It is an island group of the archipelago of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea and has become a favorite destination for couples who go on honeymoon or to celebrate anniversaries in one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

It is what was left over from a violent volcanic eruption that made much of the original island territory disappear, forming the current caldera. Apart from Santorini, the other inhabited island of the archipelago is Thirasia. Other 4 islets that make up the island group are uninhabited.
