If you are in the mood for nature, beaches and a gastronomy that will take your breath away, welcome to Greece! Here you will find the best travel deals to the Greek Islands, so you can enjoy this paradise at the best possible price.

The islands of Santorini and Mykonos are, along with Athens, the main attractions, or at least the best known of Greece for travelers who want to discover the country. So let me help you find your best vacation to the Greek islands, below.

To experience Santorini to the fullest I recommend spending a minimum of 3 nights on the island to give you time to see the most emblematic places and make the most of it. Want to know where to see the best sunsets on the island? A few kilometers from the capital is Immerivigli, climb the mountain and enjoy this natural balcony, one of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see in your life! A route that I recommend to all who visit the island is the one that goes from Imerovigli to Oia by rocky paths on a cliff, you will see great wonders.

The Greek islands are divided between two seas. The bulk of the islands lie to the south and east of mainland Greece, in the Aegean Sea. There are the archipelagos of the Saronic Islands (5 on the map), between the capital Athens and the Peloponnese; the Cyclades (1), south of Athens; Crete (7) which closes the Aegean Sea to the south; the Dodecanese archipelago (3) off the Turkish coast; the Northern Aegean Islands (4), north of the Dodecanese and approaching the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits; and finally Euboea and the Sporades islands (5) northeast of Athens.

To reach the islands of Greece there are only two means, as is evident, the sea and the air. By sea we will reach almost any island, while by air only the most important and touristic ones have airports and commercial flights.

Normally we arrive in Greece by plane and once on Greek soil we usually set off to discover the Greek islands. This is how it was until recently, arriving at Athens airport and from there you could get to know the country. Fortunately today there are connections with many islands that allow us to travel for a weekend or a few days.

How to get from Athens to the Greek Islands

Greece has about 6,000 islands, of which about 200 are inhabited. You could spend a lifetime to visit them all! During our tour of the Greek islands we decided to focus on the archipelago of the Cyclades Islands, in the Aegean Sea, which comprises about 220 islands.Mykonos and Santorini are part of these islands, but if something was clear to us from the beginning is that we would not visit them in the middle of July. We needed tranquility above all else! And you don’t know how glad we were with our decision.

Days 2-4: Serifos IslandThe second day we headed to the port of Athens, Piraeus, to catch the first of the ferries on this trip through Greece. We began our Greek island route via the wonderful island of Serifos, where we spent a total of 3 days.        ►Serifos island guide: what to see, how to get there, accommodation and transportation.

WHICH GREEK ISLAND TO CHOOSEWe get the same questions very often:  – Which are the best Greek islands – Which is your favorite Greek island – Which Greek island to choose for a X days trip?  We, in addition to the 3 previous ones, have subsequently returned to Greece and have been to two more islands: Naxos and Koufonisia, for this reason, we have written an article with the 5 best Greek Cyclades islands, in which we tell you a summary of each of them so that you can choose the one that best suits your tastes and the days you have available.Koufonisia Island, Greece

One of the questions you asked us the most on Instagram during our trip to Greece, was how we went from one island to another. That’s why, we have prepared this post where we are going to tell you how to move around in the Greek Islands.

In 2018 we started with Mykonos for proximity to Athens, we moved on to Ios which was the closest to Mykonos. Next was Santorini for proximity to Ios. And from there Milos to then catch a flight to Zakynthos, located in the Ionian Islands.

And in our 2019 route, we started with Naxos for proximity to Athens, from Naxos we went to Koufonisia because it is next to Naxos. From Koufonisia we went to Paros and from there to Serifos to go back to Athens. From Athens we went to the Sporades island of Skopelos.

What you have to do is to calculate what it costs you to take the car on the ferry and the days you are going to use it, to see if it is more profitable to take the car on the ferries, or rent on each island the days you are going to need it.
