If your vacation is in the summer season, we recommend you to postpone your trip to Greece in June or September. Since it is still warm, but you will have less tourist overcrowding. Therefore, you will be able to enjoy without agglomerations in a more relaxed way.

It is one of the safest countries in Europe, you just have to take the same precautions as in the rest of the world. Beware of pickpockets in the big capitals, do not leave your belongings out of sight and avoid the most dangerous areas.

As for how much money you should take with you or if it is better to use your credit card, because of the crisis many tourists began to complain that they could not withdraw much money in Greek ATMs. For this reason it is recommended to carry cash or pay with the card where you can.

It consists of the main building, which is the Parthenon (432 BC). But also other temples such as the Temple of Erechtheon, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Theater of Dionysus, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus or the entrance to the Propylaea.

10 days in greece budget

We have been a total of 11 days and have visited Athens, Milos, Santorini and Mykonos. We did the trip from September 29 to October 10 which is not high season in the Islands. On this date there are fewer options available in terms of flights and ferries so we had to choose the route and the islands depending on the availability of routes. In the preparations post we will tell you in more detail the itinerary and how we did everything.

All the apartments we rented had the option to take you and pick you up paying a lower amount than if you take a cab or hire the trip on your own. We will detail everything about how we did it and other possible options in the next posts of the trip.

In Athens the cheapest option is to get to the city by metro. But as it was raining all day and we had little time we preferred to use this option. You can also use cab or Civitatis for transfers.

Finally we booked in advance the car for Milos but in the rest of the islands, as we were improvising, we took the cars on the fly in Santorini and Mykonos. If you go in high season it is better to book them in advance.

Travel to greece cheap

Traveling in Europe is NOT cheap. I’m sure you’ll agree with me. If you’re starting to document for your next trip, you’re likely to get a scare after finding out the price of accommodation in capitals like Amsterdam, London or Paris. Europe is definitely not for travelers with a budget of less than 30 € per day…

So that you can do your own math before you go, I have made the list of expenses with the typical costs of the things you will buy when you are there. This way there will be no surprises… almost always unpleasant ones :/

Going to see a play at the foot of the Acropolis is priceless! If you are planning to travel to Athens soon, I recommend you to read my guide about the capital of Greece. I’ve lived there recently, so the information you’ll find is fresh, accurate and detailed.

So, how much does it cost to travel to Greece, how much money do you have, how do you want to travel, those are the two questions you have to answer to know your budget. All places can be cheap or expensive, as every traveler spends money differently. There is always someone who travels for less, and there is always someone who travels for more. For this reason I have created several different budgets to give you a more or less accurate idea of how much a trip to Greece costs depending on the way you travel:

How much money to take to greece

We tend to look at a lot of accommodations, looking for hotels or apartments with the 3 B’s (good, nice and cheap). Even so, there are some times that we give ourselves a tribute and look for a cool place to stay and sleep.

There are plenty of routes and islands to visit. Flying to Athens with a direct flight, or going directly to the Greek islands such as Mykonos, Santorini or Crete, are some of the options we consider.

Tip: As of today (January 2018), the entrance to the Acropolis costs 20€. It is best to buy tickets online. We bought it there and had to wait more than an hour and a half to get the tickets.

10€ gift when you activate your Bnext card. The best card for traveling, no commissions when withdrawing money from ATMs and with the best exchange rate. Register in the app through your mobile or computer and when you activate your card you will get €10 as a gift.

AirBnb: 25€ discount for your next reservation.  It is the second accommodation website we use, especially if we travel with a group of friends. Most of the accommodations usually have a kitchen, a very important extra if you want to reduce the cost of the trip.
