What are the requirements to travel to Greece now, do I need a PCR or is the vaccination certificate enough? It is normal that you ask yourself these questions, as we are in a time of many changes. Fortunately, the Hellenic country is one of the destinations where you can travel now. It is expected that from May 1, 2022, all these restrictions will disappear. The use of face masks indoors will only be mandatory in certain limited cases. Greece wants to boost tourism at all costs this summer, so if you decide to visit, you will find an almost normal climate.

As we told you in Is it safe to travel to Greece, you should always drive with caution, but we advise you to be much more cautious in Greece. Forced overtaking is not uncommon and many drivers expect you to pull straight onto the shoulder so that they can overtake you. In addition, most of the roads are not in good condition.

Also, since there will not be as many tourists, the prices of accommodations and restaurants will be more affordable. On the other hand, November to March is the worst season to travel to Greece, as temperatures will be colder and many of the tourist attractions will be closed. Also many of the ferries that connect the islands also see reduced activity, so the advice to travel to Greece that we give you is not to do it during these months, as you may not be able to visit all the places you want.

The summer months are considered high season in Greece, as it is the time that receives more tourists. If you travel to the country during these months you will see how all the places of interest will be full of tourists, to which must be added the large increase in prices that can occur in accommodation, airline tickets and even car rentals.

Our advice to travel to Greece and know thoroughly the city of Athens is that at least you stay in the city about three days. Only with that time you will be able to know each one of the places of interest that this city has. If you want you can combine your walks around the city with one of the tours or guided visits that are offered in this, certainly the best combination. You should keep in mind that if you go to the country during the high season you will find long lines in many of the places of interest.

In mid-March, when the Greek government began enforcing the blockade, it banned access to both ski resorts and beaches. Not many places in the world have the option of preventing people from skiing and swimming at the same time. While Greece enjoys the longest coastline in the European Union and one of the longest in the world, any trip must begin in Athens .

After a stroll through the old town neighborhoods of Thisseio and Plaka, and the requisite visit to Acropolis Hill and its wonderful museum, you’ll want to enjoy fresh fish at the Michelin-starred Varoulko restaurant. If the catch of the day includes mullet, order it. We Greeks consider it the king of fish dishes.

The experience will make you want to explore more of the endless Athenian waterfront, so if you have a second day, rent a car and drive to the majestic Cape Sunion for a swim under the cliff of the temple of Poseidon. The sunset there is what I would call “deep Greece,” and the hour-long drive will be well worth it.
