REQUIREMENTS for TRAVEL to EUROPE in 2022

If you are a European citizen, you will only need your ID card with a minimum expiration date of 6 months from your departure date to travel to Greece. We always recommend that you carry a valid passport with you. If your passport is stolen, it is very inconvenient to go to the nearest embassy or consulate to process the documentation.

Looking for your next flight? Find the best prices here. 10% discount on your next hotel.25€ discount on your Airbnb.Your most complete travel insurance with a 5% discount.Thousands of activities to do on your trip here.

If you need to exchange currency, there are currency exchange offices in all major cities, as well as ATMs on every corner. You will have no problem withdrawing money when you need it, although I recommend you to make card payments whenever you can, as you will not be charged withdrawal fees.

In Greece the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is available which covers medical expenses and emergencies. What this card does not cover are treatments, repatriations, indemnities, lost or stolen luggage, etc. That is why we always travel with a private insurance combined with the EHIC. We always opt for Mondo, as it has very good coverage, with a discounted price. But what we like the most is their 24h medical assistance service via WhatsApp. Here you can contract it with a 5% discount!

Perseus and his Incredible Adventures – Greek Mythology

If you are considering where to travel to Europe now, you are in luck because Greece is one of the countries with its borders open to tourism and no pandemic-related requirements as of May 1, 2022.

As you can see, it is quite safe to travel to Greece and, moreover, you will find a climate of relative normality, as well as a tourism industry with decades of experience and prepared for these unique times.

Don’t want to wait for anyone else to join you or do you love to travel solo? No need to wait any longer! Traveling alone to Greece is safe and will be an experience you will never forget. Just follow the precautions you would have at home and avoid lonely places and the depressed neighborhoods we told you about a few lines above after sunset.

Remember that, due to the current situation, travel documents and requirements may change. At IATI we are constantly updating this information. However, we recommend always checking with official sources.

Citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Mauritius, St. Kitts and Nevis and Seychelles may work in Greece without the need to obtain a visa or any other authorization for the period of their 90-day visa-free stay. However, this ability to work without a visa does not necessarily extend to other Schengen countries. For detailed information on the regulations that apply in your country, consult the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs (www.ypex.gov.gr).

You can enter Greece by car from any of its neighboring countries. From Italy, ferries will transport cars and passengers to Greece (see the section on ships). From Western Europe, the most popular route to Greece was through Yugoslavia. After the troubles in the former Yugoslavia during the 1990s, most motorists from Western Europe came overland to Italy, then took a trans-Adriatic ferry from there. Although the countries of the former Yugoslavia have since stabilized, and Hungary-Romania-Bulgaria are another, albeit much longer, alternative, the overland route through Italy remains the most popular option.
