Depending on your nationality, your situation and the length of your stay, you will need to obtain a visa to continue your studies or research in France or to return after obtaining your diploma.

If you are not a citizen of a country of the European Economic Area (EU countries and Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein) or Switzerland, and depending on your nationality, you must obtain a student visa to study in France even if your stay is less than 3 months.

There are two types of visas for short stays: the “short stay for studies” visa (court séjour pour études) and the “student competition” visa (étudiantconcours), which you can apply for if you have been invited by a French institution to take an exam or an interview.

Remember that citizens of some non-European countries are exempt from visa requirements if their stay is less than 90 days. See the article “Student visa for short stays” for more information on this topic.

How much does the visa for France cost?

By virtue of the Tourist Visa Exemption Agreement in force between Argentina and France, Argentine citizens holding ordinary passports do not require a visa to enter France for tourism purposes, for stays not exceeding 90 days (within a period of 180 calendar days). This period is applicable to the entire Schengen area.

The visa exemption does not exempt from the immigration verification carried out at the point of entry into France where the Argentine citizen must prove his/her tourist status. For this purpose, the following documentation must be presented at the time of entry into France:

Visa for France from Colombia

On the other hand, all Colombian citizens (even if they have another nationality) are REQUIRED to have a Colombian passport to be able to leave Colombia. We remind you that the child of French parents residing in Colombia, born in Colombia, is Colombian (jus solis) and can only leave the country with a Colombian passport. If you are traveling to France, for example, you must also present your French passport in order to board the plane without being required to obtain a visa.

ESTA stands for Electronic System for Travel Authorization. ESTA is an online application system developed by the U.S. government to pre-screen travelers before authorizing them to board a plane or ship bound for the United States. Beginning January 12, 2009, anyone entering the United States under the visa waiver program must have an approved ESTA travel authorization.

As a foreign resident, you may under certain conditions apply for reimbursement of the TVA for purchases made in France. For French nationals, the consular registration card will be one of the supporting documents you will be required to provide proof of your residency outside France.

Requirements for travel to france 2022

If you reside in one of the countries included in the “Études en France” (Studies in France) procedure and you need a visa to be able to study in France, you have to apply in advance for your enrollment in higher education on the “Études en France” platform.  Your visa application will be automatically transferred to the French consular authorities in your country of residence through this platform.

Upon arrival in France, you have to validate your visa. The procedure is completely dematerialized: you can complete it remotely, from your home, with your computer. You have to validate your visa within 3 months of your arrival in France at the latest.

If you wish to stay in France to continue your studies while your VLS-TS visa is about to expire, you have to ask for its renewal with a request at a “préfecture de police” (in France, the police prefecture performs administrative functions), where you have to apply for “une carte de séjour pluriannuelle” (a multiannual residence permit). You have to go through this procedure in France three months before the expiration of your VLS-TS visa.
