To those Ukrainians who stand up for the values we hold dear, we support them, not only with our words but also with our actions. Canada will offer refuge to their families as they fight on the front lines of a war to defend their freedom for the benefit of the entire world, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said in a press release.
The Russian invasion launched three weeks ago has triggered a huge exodus of refugees across Ukraine’s western borders. An estimated three million people have fled the country so far.

Our team processes the priority temporary visa application in less than 48 business hours after receipt of the documents and we will do all the necessary follow-ups to obtain priority processing with the Canadian government.
Unfortunately, despite the Canadian government’s promises, the delays are longer than expected, far exceeding 14 business days following the taking of biometrics or submission of the application for biometric exempt individuals. We are seeing visa offices struggling to keep up with demand, having received over 90,000 applications after 3 weeks of implementation. It is our role to also do all the follow-ups and put pressure on the authorities to respect their own standard.

As part of the Government of Canada’s response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is introducing new immigration streams for Ukrainians wishing to come to Canada on a temporary or permanent basis.
While the world has witnessed the unwavering dedication of the Ukrainian people to their country, we recognize that some immediate and second-degree relatives of Canadian citizens and permanent residents may want to start a new life in Canada. For these families, IRCC will quickly implement a special family reunification sponsorship pathway to permanent residency. We will be developing the details of this program in the coming weeks, including working with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.
All Ukrainians coming to Canada as part of these measures will be eligible to apply for open work permits, making it easier for employers to quickly hire Ukrainian citizens. As previously announced, IRCC will issue open work permits to Ukrainian visitors, workers and students who are currently in Canada and unable to return home safely.
