The Russian delegation announced on Sunday that it had requested a meeting of the Security Council “in light of the atrocious provocations by Ukrainian radicals in Bucha,” but that appointment for now has not been entered on the official agenda in a month when the Council is chaired by the United Kingdom
In a message through social networks, the British ambassador, Barbara Woodward, defended that her country is not going to allow Russia to “abuse” its seat in the Security Council (where it has a permanent seat) to promote “its lies and propaganda”. Woodward confirmed that the alleged killing of Bucha and the other “mounting evidence of war crimes” will be discussed at Tuesday’s session.
The United States announced Monday that it joined an international team to document alleged war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine, but avoids talking yet about “genocide” in the case of the Bucha massacre outside Kiev.
At a press conference, State Department spokesman Ned Price reported that a U.S. team of prosecutors and experts is supporting the war crimes unit of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office in gathering evidence to bring Russia to court.
