In his first video entitled “Does anyone want to walk with me to Russia?”, he achieved more than 4 million views. And no wonder. In this clip, Andrew explains that it is possible to walk from the United States to Russia in just 20 minutes. Does the Bering Strait ring a bell? The Diomedes archipelago is the star of this curious geographical phenomenon.

Time travelAnother peculiarity found in the Bering Strait is the time difference. Despite the short distance that separates the islands, there is a 21-hour time difference between them, almost a whole day. The reason? Between the two passes the imaginary international time zone change line near the 180º meridian. Thus, if you go from the United States to Russia, you will travel to the future, while if you go the other way around, you will travel to the past.

The documents required for entry to Russia by a citizen of the United States are visas. Visa to Russia is issued for citizens of the United States at Consulates or Embassies of the Russian Federation. When applying for a visa, an American citizen must show an invitation sent to him/her by an individual or a legal entity of Russia. The visa applicant must also fill out a visa application form and pay the visa processing fee.

Invitation to Russia for citizens of the United States may have different aspects, depending on who is handling the processing and the purpose of the visit to the Russian Federation.

Tourist visa – visa which is processed by the foreign citizen who expresses a desire to visit Russia to see its tourist and cultural sites. In order to receive a tourist visa, a tourist invitation is required for citizens of the United States.

When applying for a tourist visa at the Consulate, a foreigner may be required to show airline tickets and documents confirming the reservation of accommodation for the planned period of stay, as well as an insurance policy.

How long is the flight from russia to the united states?

Actually it is always the same standard document, which consists of 2 parts: a “voucher of services”=”voucher” (in English or Russian) plus a “confirmation of reception of foreign tourist”=”confirmation of accommodation booking” =”podtverzhdenie” (in Russian). This document is issued by a Russian travel agency authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue it or a hotel entitled to do so. In most cases this document is arranged when you book your accommodation in Russia (but it is not automatic, you have to do it specially), i.e. when booking any type of accommodation, do not forget to ask about it (ask for “visa support”) before booking. There are also travel or visa agencies that manage it as an additional service. They provide a copy by fax or in PDF format. The visa will be issued exactly for the dates of stay indicated in the letter of invitation. Normally it is not required to present a reservation of air or train tickets to apply for the visa (you can read all the requirements on their website). The visa will be affixed to a page of your passport.
