Many travelers to India quickly get lost in the paperwork involved in obtaining a traditional visa, i.e., a paper visa physically affixed to the passport. Fortunately, there is now a more modern way to obtain a residence permit for India that is entirely electronic. This is the e-visa.
Requirements for travel to India 2022
Visitors staying in India for less than 72 hours may obtain a transit visa (a confirmed airline reservation for return travel must be shown at the time of application), otherwise a tourist visa is required.

In addition to entering your travel details, you will need to upload a photograph of yourself with a white background that meets the specifications listed on the website and your passport photo page showing your personal details. Your passport must be valid for at least six months at the time of travel. Additional documents may be required depending on the type of e-visa required.
You will need to have a copy of the ETA with you when you arrive in India and present it at the immigration counter at the airport. An immigration officer will stamp your passport with your e-visa to enter India. Your biometric data will also be captured at this time.
