The climate of Central America
To emphasize the high precipitations that take place mainly in the rainy season that goes from May to October. In these months there are strong storms especially in the afternoon or at night. El Salvador is also affected by hurricanes during the months of June to November.
Temperate climate: It occurs in areas between 1000 and 2000 m. above sea level, with mild temperatures. It includes Guatemala City and the departments of Chimaltenango, El Progreso and Sacatepéquez.
Cold climate: Above 2000 m., temperatures are the lowest, below 15ºC in the months of December to February. It affects the departments of Huehuetenango, Quetzaltenango and Totonicapán.
Tropical savanna climate: Affects the interior/northern zone including the Sula Valley, Quimistán and adjacent areas. The average temperature is around 25ºC and rainfall is lower than on the Atlantic coast.
Climate of the western zone: Above 1400 m. of altitude, with average temperature below 18ºC with cool and dry winters. Below 1400 m. the climate is of the tropical savanna type.
