Requirements for entry to Ireland 2022
For stays longer than 90 days, the traveler must obtain a nonimmigrant visa from the respective U.S. embassy in the home country.[1] Individuals wishing to travel to the United States for work, study, immigration, or any other reason other than tourism or business must first apply for a visa.
To be eligible for a visa waiver under the VWP, the traveler seeking admission to the United States must be a citizen of a country that has been designated by the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with the Secretary of State, as a “program country.” Permanent residents of designated countries who are not citizens of a designated country do not qualify for a visa waiver. The criteria for designation as program countries are specified in Section 217(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. § 1187).[4] The criteria emphasize passport security and a very low nonimmigrant visa denial rate, no more than 3% as specified in Section 217(c)(2)(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act and continued compliance with U.S. immigration law. In addition, one of the conditions for joining the program is that “the governments reciprocally provide visa-exempt access to U.S. citizens for 90 days for tourism or business purposes.”[5]
