April 22 – Mexico learns that it will not receive Pfizer vaccines from COVAX, the global vaccine initiative led by the World Health Organization, in the most recent allocation. The country had intended to use Pfizer’s COVAX vaccines to inoculate minors. Mexican health officials said they will seek to sign direct contracts with Pfizer or Cuba for its Abdala vaccine.
How will the passport affect Latin American travelers?
U.S. immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations (listed below) before an immigrant visa is issued. The panel of physicians conducting the immigrant visa applicant’s medical examinations must verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirements, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations:
In order to assist the medical panel and avoid delays in processing an immigrant visa, all immigrant visa applicants should have their proof of vaccinations available for the medical panel to review during the immigrant medical examination. Visa applicants should consult with their regular physician to obtain a copy of their immunization records, if available. If you do not have immunization records, the panel of physicians will work with you to determine which immunizations you may need to meet the requirement. Certain exemptions from the immunization requirements are available upon the recommendation of the medical panel.
