If you are thinking about cheap places to vacation in the vast South America, you will not be short of options. What’s more, these destinations offer something that beats any budget: when you land there, you’ll feel like you’re just a few steps away from what we could call paradise.
On the legendary Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America by volume, are the equally mythical Uros Islands. They are artificial islands on the waters of the lake, which Bolivian and Peruvian natives built in the pre-Columbian era for the purpose of habitation. The Uros are supported by reeds, so constant maintenance work is necessary to ensure buoyancy. On these islets, residents fish and hunt birds and, of course, welcome tourists with open arms. The low cost of living, coupled with an extremely rich traditional culture, make the Uros Islands one of the cheap destinations in South America that cannot be missing on your travel bucket list.
One of the perfect cheap destinations in South America to rest and relax completely. In the seaside resort of Cabo Polonio, 260 km from Montevideo, the streets are dirt roads and there is no internet or electricity (although many establishments have their own generator). Access is a bit restricted, usually reached on horseback or by 4×4, but the scenery of virtually deserted beaches, huge dunes and sea lions will make any visitor can do without all the superfluous modernities.

It should be noted that Colombia has a minimum wage by law that is within the 260 dollars per month and with a percentage of cost of living lower than New York by 60%, which not only benefits Colombians themselves, but also foreigners.
In percentages, Mexico is considered 70% cheaper to live compared to the rest of the countries in Latin America, and 73% compared to other countries in the world; much of this has to do with the fact that the country has the highest GDP in the region. This has not exactly been well invested, but it allows Mexicans to have a stable quality of life.
As we indicated before, the quality of life in terms of expenses is different among the cities of this country, especially when compared to the most touristic cities such as Tulum, which has resorts and exclusive hotel chains.

Latin America has plenty of places and cultures to discover. In general, it is an area where it is quite economical to travel, although everything will depend on how much you want to spend and the currency of your country of origin.
And if you plan to visit each of these places, but you want it to be cheap, the best thing to do is to look for cheap accommodations, without spending too much on hotels, meals or other extra activities that will increase the price of your trip.
If you decide to have a coffee in any of its restaurants or bars, it will be around 12 BOB (1.40 €), while a half liter of beer will cost you 14 BOB (1.70 €). As you can see, it is almost more expensive to drink than to eat, so don’t miss the opportunity to fill up on local food.
Having a coffee and half a liter of beer in this country will cost you the same, an average of $1,30 (1,10 €). Here we can’t recommend you anything, although we have a clear idea of what we would go for…
