Which countries can I travel to with Canadian residency?
Some Canadian consulates or embassies require that this letter contains an official stamp from a municipal official certifying that the information contained in the document is true. This is a simple procedure that can be done at the mayor’s office of the municipality where the family member resides in Canada.
Also known by its acronym in English, ETA, for “Electronic Travel Authorization”, is an electronic authorization issued by the Canadian government to foreign travelers who do not require a tourist visa to enter Canadian territory.
Any foreign traveler, exempt from visitor or tourist visas, who wishes to take a flight to Canada or pass through Canada to the final destination, must obtain an electronic travel authorization.
A study permit is required for formal studies at academic institutions in Canada. It is not required for language courses or courses of a non-academic nature or studies of less than 6 months duration. A visitor’s visa will also be required for entry.
CX888 and CX865/CX889 are not pre-approved flights by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), as they operate outside the hours of service of the U.S. pre-approval processing facilities.
Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is mandatory for visa-exempt foreign nationals traveling to or through Canada by air. Travelers must apply for the eTA and receive approval prior to boarding their flight to Canada. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travelers with a valid visa. When traveling to the United States, you will be required by airport customs to present your exact address during your stay in the United States, as required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection.
What does a Canadian need to enter the United States?
With a valid eTA you can travel to Canada as often as you wish for short stays (usually for periods of up to six months at a time). You do not need an eTA to travel within Canada.
An eTA does not guarantee entry into Canada. When you arrive in Canada, a border services officer will ask to see your passport and other documents. You must convince the officer that you are admissible to enter Canada.
Applying for an eTA is a simple online process that takes only a few minutes. Most applicants get their eTA approval (via email) within minutes. However, some applications may take several days to process if you are asked to send supporting documents. It is best to obtain an eTA before booking your flight to Canada.
When we approve your eTA, the authorization will be linked to the passport you used to make the application. You are required to present that passport when you check in at the airline counter for your flight to Canada.
If I have a Canadian visa, can I enter the United States?
The Canadian eTA performs the same function as the Canadian visa, which can be applied for and obtained online without having to go to the Canadian embassy or consulate. Canada eTA is valid for business administration, tourist or transit purposes only.
The eTA Canada visa is an online document and is electronically linked to your passport, so there is no need to print anything. You should apply for the eTA Canada visa 3 days prior to your flight to Canada. Once you have received your eTA Canada visa in the email, you should also arrange the following before boarding your flight to Canada:
