Joe Biden announced travel restrictions for
The United Kingdom government announced Tuesday that it will remove all countries from its red list of travel destinations as of next morning, considering that it has lost effectiveness in slowing the spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Community transmission of the new variant in the UK and the rest of the world makes the red list “less effective in slowing the incursion of omicron from abroad,” the minister said.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) estimates that some 200,000 people were infected with the Omicron variant in the UK on Monday, although the official number of confirmed test-confirmed cases was 54,661 yesterday.
Parliament is expected to approve these measures this afternoon with the backing of the Conservative majority and the Labour opposition, although dozens of Tory MPs have announced that they will rebel against their own government and vote against the plan.

Health Minister Sajid Javid also presented the measure to MPs, at the start of a parliamentary debate in which Boris Johnson’s government is seeking to win the backing of dozens of rebel lawmakers from his own party to approve new health measures against the spread of Mycron.Javid explained that the “red list” is being abolished because “it is now less effective in curbing the incursion of Mycron from abroad.” On Monday, the minister said the new variant already accounts for 20% of new cases in the country and 40% in London.Related topicsShare this storyView comments
