The diplomat made the remarks on the eve of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to South Africa, where he will attend the 10th BRICS Summit, to be held July 25-27 in Johannesburg.
The visit is part of Xi’s tour of the Middle East and Africa, which has already taken him to the United Arab Emirates and Senegal, and also includes Rwanda and Mauritius. This is Xi’s fourth visit to Africa as Chinese president.
Xi’s upcoming trip will be the third state visit by a Chinese president to South Africa. His South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, will visit China and co-chair the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit in Beijing next September, the Chinese diplomat said.
He stressed that BRICS, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, has become an important force for global governance and a key engine for world economic growth.
“How BRICS countries strengthen their political mutual trust, unity and cooperation, and how they articulate their own voice to safeguard multilateralism will be aspects that will arouse great attention during the summit in Johannesburg,” Lin concluded.

We will not deny it, as soon as we found out that one of the destinations of the KLM Sustainable Flight Award was Cape Town, the first thing we did was to look at the budget for traveling to South Africa, because we did not want to go over budget once we arrived at our destination.

South Africa has surprised us positively for being a very economical country, almost at Asian levels, believe it or not. The South African rand, the local currency, was at the time of our visit (August 2019) quite weak against the euro, which guaranteed us a very favorable exchange rate of 17R for 1€.
