Panama. From May 18 to 25, 2022 Panama will become the scene of a historic and transcendental event for the world, which will bring together kings, queens and tribal chiefs, in the summit event of the “Journey of atonement and reconciliation of Mother Africa and reunion with her Diaspora”, which was launched this October 28 in Ghana-Africa, under Aido Network International.

“Panama will make history because the event will have worldwide exposure and will become the first country in the world to hold an event of this magnitude, which will bring together the kings, queens and tribal chiefs of Africa, to ask forgiveness to all African descendants scattered around the world. The idea is to strengthen the historical and natural ties of the continent with its diaspora during this meeting in Panama,” said Dr. Harris-Barrow.

Aido and the Global Chamber of Commerce of the Sixth Region signed a memorandum of understanding on February 12 and after that, Aido instructed the Culture and Heritage Division to develop the “Roots of Africa” program as the flagship of the journey across the Atlantic Ocean to the Americas. This program is an important part of the preparatory activities, which will culminate in the crucial historic event to be held in Panama City in May.

Ghana is one of the West African countries stretching between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sahel, thus connecting two worlds: equatorial Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. A former British colony, famous for its gold – for which it was nicknamed the “Gold Coast” – and sadly known for its slave deportation centers in the 17th and 18th centuries, Ghana remains a tourist destination… forgotten by mainstream tourism. In the guide of the prestigious Petitt Futé collection, published by Alhenamedia, they explain why we should visit, at least once in a lifetime, this paradise that no one is passing through.

However, it is one of the most accessible countries in the Gulf of Guinea. With an increasingly solid economy, it is a territory where people move freely. Ghana is a country with little dedication to tourism, but in Ghana we will discover cities and villages full of monarchic traditions, post-colonial modernity and wise African tranquility. The traveler will be able to immerse himself in the huge and crowded markets, taste its spicy cuisine and the great variety of tropical fruits, verify that traditional systems can function in a modern state and, simply, discover the daily course of life in West Africa.

He and 40 other famous African descendants living scattered around the world participated in “The Full Circle Festival,” designed to promote tourism in Ghana. Some of them were Idris Elba, Boris Kodjoe, Naomi Campbell, Anthony Anderson and Adrienne-Joi Johnson. During his visit, Akwamuhene Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, leader of the former Ghanaian Akwamu state, named White chief “Oduapong,” which means “tree with strong roots that does not fear storms.”

We know what great achievements Africans in the Diaspora have accomplished and how much they have contributed to the lives of Americans, and so it is important that today, on this 400th anniversary, we celebrate their lives and sacrifices.

To remember, many will be visiting Ghana. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is also organizing a commemorative trip from the Jamestown in Virginia, USA, to the Jamestown in Accra, Ghana.

In Africa, the culture of tipping is part of the idiosyncrasy of the continent, they are not linked to the salary of a worker, but are a traditional element of gratitude, which the local staff (driver and guide) expects as extra compensation for a job well done, at the end of the itinerary. Tipping is completely voluntary. Each traveler can give (or not give) what he/she feels is most appropriate for the services received by the local staff.

During the route we will find quite a few police controls, in some cases it is a simple formality, in others they will ask us for our passports that we always have to carry on hand, and in others they will entertain us a little more to get a “tip”.
